Spring Break Tour Mwamko
This year I went on the AACRC's Mwamko spring break tour, which was a 10 day trip taking us to New York, Washington D.C, Virginia beach, North Carolina, and Atlanta. This trip was all about leadership and growing as a person. As the new Ms.Kuamka my goal was to get closer to the black student population and see how I can improve as a person. Another big part of the trip was for the last 7 days of the trip we used the Nguzo Saba principles each day to guide our trip. The words are Umoja(unity), Kujichagulia(self-determination), Ujima(Collective work & reponsibility), Ujamaa(cooperative economics), Nia(purpose), Kuumba(creativity), Imani(faith). These seven words guided our journey and managed to be the principles we instilled in ourselves for this trip. Over the course of 10 days we went and visited the louie armstrong house, the Apollo theater, Central Park,National Museum of Africa American history & culture, the MLK monument, The king center and a variety of different colleges. Over the course of this trip I learned to step outside my comfort zone and I started to network at the colleges and at the alumni receptions. I also learned that to be a good leader you must be willing to take a step back and look at the whole picture sometimes. There was some road bumps on the road and as a leader of the trip it was my job to work on finding a solution. I had no idea how to fix the problems happening on the trip and I spent many hours reflecting on how to make the trip a fun environment for everyone. Eventually I changed my approach and found a solution to the problems. The trip was super fun and I learned so much and met so many amazing leaders. I was also surrounded with so much black excellence from the university of Cincinnati.
