On Campus Co-op

During my fall semester I became a Residential Advisor at Stratford Heights for building 14 and 15. I was placed in a connecting building which means I had around 60 residents that I was actively in charge of. This experience was full of many long nights decorating my bulletin board, hours upon hours spent completing bearcat chats and full of many funny conversations with my residents. One of the biggest things I learned from this experience, was the importance of setting boundaries. Since I was a new RA, I felt the need to constantly be there ready to go in the case that my residents needed something. I found this to be very exhausting because I would have some residents contacting me at 2am because they felt their air condition was not working properly. Eventually I set boundaries with my residents, and I told them that after 9pm, if they sent me a message I would not be responding until the morning unless I was on call. After this I was able to manage the RA job and my own personal health. Overall, the RA Job as a whole is super fun and I learned so much. I had an awesome staff full of 19 other RA’s. Some new RA'S like me, and some who were more experienced. I learned RA tips for the experiencesd Ra's and bonded over being new with the newer RA's. We were able to have a variety of professional development sessions and were able to connect more with the Pro staff.
